When deciding where to live, it’s essential to consider safety and security before purchasing a home. Some areas in Miami are much safer than others. These areas are Coral Gables, Sunny Isles Beach, Little Havana, and Fisher Island. Ask your real estate agent to show you the neighborhood if you’re unsure of what’s safe.

Coral Gables

While Miami is notorious for its high crime rate, Coral Gables, located southwest of downtown, is one of the safest areas in Miami. In 2013, the city had only 167 violent crimes per 100,000 residents, which is about forty-four percent lower than the national average. The crime rate in Coral Gables was also 19 percent lower than in the previous year. Its residents also enjoy many amenities, including restaurants, art galleries, and parks, making it desirable.

Fisher Island

One of the safest areas in Miami is Fisher Island. This high-end private island is located just south of South Beach and is completely isolated from the mainland. The area is patrolled round-the-clock by police officers and is surrounded by a marine defense force. The island is home to some of the wealthiest residents in the country. Guests are only permitted to visit by invitation. There is a police station on the island and around 50 security guards on duty. The island also has a school for its residents.

Sunny Isles Beach

Crime statistics for Sunny Isles Beach, FL, show a reduction of almost half from the national average. The city’s crime rate is about four per 1,000 residents compared to an average of 198 crimes per 100,000 in Florida. Property crime rates are also lower than the national average at 1.83 times the rate.

Little Havana

Although the neighborhood is not dangerous, it is wise to be alert and take standard precautions. In particular, make sure you always know where you’re going and when you’re expected to be back. In addition, take care not to leave valuables in your car, especially if you’re traveling alone. It’s also a good idea to share your location with someone else.
